ROUND-UP // FALL BOOTS YOU SERIOUSLY NEED TO SNAG

HAT | SKIRT | TEE | JACKET | BAG | SUNNIES | BOOTS

My favorite season of all is HERE! One way I love adding dimension to my fall/winter outfits is by throwing on a cute pair of booties or tall boots. I don’t always need wide calf, so this round-up includes mostly wide calf but also a few non wide brands & styles I’ve tried that worked for me. Boots can be SO hard - especially if you’re like me. I need COMFORT, and I need them to not look ridiculous. Ha!

THREE THINGS I NEED IN A BOOT:

BRA REVIEW // the prettiest, basic t-shirt bra you didn't know you needed

This post is sponsored by Bare Necessities, a brand I tried and loved. Thank you for supporting House of Dorough. Anything you purchase from these links may give me a small commission.

It’s comfortable and you don’t have to think twice about it — that’s MY kinda everyday grab and go bra, honestly. I am loving this little bra review adventure I’ve been on for a few months! So when Bare Necessities reached out to me, of course I said yes… bras are SO hard, especially when you have had babies or gone through extreme weight loss or weight gain.

NYFW DAY/NIGHT 4 // what I wore + where I went in this ethically made dress

DRESS | SHOES | BAG

Before I go into detail about this ethically made plus size designer… let’s chat real quick about my Day 4 of fashion week. It was my last full day in NYC. That morning was “the morning” when I experienced all of this (click to read post), so for the afternoon I went back to the hotel and chilled for a little while. Then I pulled myself together, and made my way to Spring Studios to see two fashion shows. The first one was Chiara Boni la Petite Robe which was beautiful, but I was disheartened that they didn’t have any plus size representation on the runway (considering they do carry it, I was surprised).

IT WAS MY FIRST TIME GOING TO THE CURVYCON // and here's what I wore and what I thought

SHOP ALL 3 LOOKS HERE

Anthropologie sponsored my trip to The CurvyCon this year, and I was more than honored to attend on their behalf. The CurvyCon was really amazing… since I was floating back and forth from NYFW events to CurvyCon events I noticed a stark difference.

If you read my post from yesterday, I talk about the fatphobic vibes that surrounded NYFW. It’s easy to feel defeated in those situations, but I gathered all of my video footage from the CurvyCon and I want you to watch it.

FATPHOBIA AT NEW YORK FASHION WEEK // we have a lot of work to do

CARDIGAN | DRESS | BOOTS | SUNNIES | BAG

Before you see the word “fatphobia” and roll your eyes… don’t. Hear me out.

A year and a half ago, one of my readers responded to my Instagram story where I mentioned I hated the word FAT… and she straight up told me I was fatphobic. In the moment, I got defensive. I swiftly explained to her that the word FAT was extremely hurtful to me and caused me a lot of pain. And that I shouldn’t have to hear that word if I don’t want to.

THIS IS NOT A MOMENT, IT'S A MOVEMENT // A trip to the Anthropologie home office in Philadelphia, PA

If you’re new around here, you may not know that Anthropologie extended their sizing to include plus sizes last Spring. I was very impressed with my first fitting room experience (read about that here or watch it here). While I was there trying amazing clothing on that actually fit (tears!!) - one of the corporate team members was there and mentioned that the president of Anthropologie was actually behind APlus 100%.

BUT WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU CAN'T BREASTFEED?

This post was paid for by Walmart, a store I regularly shop in. Thank you for supporting House of Dorough by reading this post!

Real talk: I struggle when I hear people say that breastfeeding is scientifically the best. Maybe it’s true, but it still hurts to hear sometimes. I wasn’t even given the chance with Emmie (she was tube fed for medical reasons), and with Pj... I was only able to for about a month. I have friends who have breastfed exclusively and I think it’s absolutely amazing that they’re able to do that.

TRUE LIFE // WHAT DIET CULTURE DID TO MY MENTAL HEALTH + your anonymous stories

This is a touchy subject, I’m well aware. But a couple of weeks ago, after the release of the WW children’s app (which I strongly disagree with) - I asked you all on Instagram to tell me your diet culture stories.

Let me make this clear: This isn’t about whether or not it’s okay to lose weight. It’s about how you’re doing it, and if that is in a healthy way or in a, well … lack of a better description, disordered eating type of way.
