My Plus Size Love Story
OUR LOVE STORY
I have always been a sucker for romanticizing time. I love countdowns and recaps, and I spend an inordinate amount of time looking through pictures from different eras of my life. As I am writing this post, I have been married to my very best friend for just over 6 months, and now - in true Caroline fashion, it is time to reminisce.
There is so much I could say about the timeline of my relationship and engagement with my husband, Kyle. To save time and mental energy, I will give some bullet points!
2014 – We met while attending Valdosta State University (go blazers!). We shared several mutual friends and naturally started hanging out in groups.
2015 – We were roommates in an off-campus house with our mutual friend (very Nick and Jess on New Girl vibes). At this point, we were not romantically involved at all. We had separate rooms and another roommate, but we obviously were spending even more time together and feelings developed over time.
2016 – After being inseparable for 2 years, we finally started dating. I graduated with my Bachelor’s degree in 2016 and we remained roommates in that off-campus house until Kyle graduated undergrad in May 2017 (I was in grad school until 2018)
2017 – Kyle gets his first post-grad job in the ATL area while I was finishing up grad school at VSU - we were in a long-distance relationship until I graduated in May 2018. It was so challenging, but honestly one of the most pivotal points in solidifying how much we loved each other.
2018 – We reunite in Savannah after I graduate grad school (we celebrated with a karaoke night - see picture below). For the next 3 years, we lived and worked at the same university in different departments. We spent most of our lunch breaks together sharing a meal and playing cards.
2019 – We got engaged on River Street and drank complimentary champagne at one of our favorite spots to celebrate. Soon after, we picked our venue and set our wedding date for January 2021.
2020 – Days before the first wave of COVID-19 hits the US and lockdowns began, we had our engagement photo shoot on my 26th birthday. It was a perfect day – one I thought of often when things got scary with the pandemic.

In August 2020, it was time to send out save-the-dates and have our wedding showers, but we didn’t feel safe with no vaccine available yet, so we made the tough decision to postpone our wedding date to January 2022.
2021 – We relocated to the metro Atlanta area (where we hope to stay for good!) and really dove into wedding planning. My next post will be getting into the details of this process!
My sweet family surprised us with a wedding shower at Thanksgiving!
2022 – WE FINALLY GOT MARRIED after being engaged for nearly 2 1/2 years! It was a beautiful day that surpassed all my expectations.
