friday five with abbigayle // Five Items I Can't Live Without

I am admittedly somewhat of a minimalist. I’m certainly not the bare-walls, four black shirts in my closet kind (I have art covering every inch of my room, and my love of vintage clothing makes it impossible for me to ever pair my closet down to essentials), but I love to reassess the items I own, to make sure that everything I own is serving a purpose or bringing me joy. There are, however, some items that I use every single day, and make my life SO MUCH better that I can’t help but preach the good news. Below, you’ll find the five items I can’t live without.

  1. My French Press. I love french press coffee. French presses take up less space than a standard coffee maker, I prefer the taste, AND you can use them to brew cold brew! I have THIS STAINLESS STEEL ONE, but I LOVE how cute THESE colorful french presses are. I recommend opting for stainless steel or metal over the traditional glass french press that you see more often, because they last SO much longer (no shattered glass), and they are much easier to clean.

2. Quip Toothbrush - I am a little obsessed with my dental health, but i also ALWAYS forget when it’s time to change my toothbrush. I finally tried Quip, and I am in love. It makes brushing so easy, they automatically send you new batteries and brush heads every 3 months, and they come with a base that doubles as a brush cover for sanitary traveling! I have this black one, and I love the sleek design, but they have tons of other colors and even kid-size brushes!

3. A solid tote bag. I carry everything in my favorite tote bag, and i have used it so much that it’s falling apart. It’s definitely time to replace it, and this is the one I’m buying! FEED is an incredible company that creates sustainable bags, purses, and other travel accessories. Each of their products equates to a different amount of meals that they provide per purchase. This bag will provide 10 meals to someone in need, but some of their larger items can feed up to 200 people!

4. A good pair of socks. I have been a long distance runner since I was 15, and one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned from running is the importance of a good pair of socks. I also have the world’s coldest feet, so I wear at least one pair of socks every single day. I prefer thin, wool-blend socks because they perform the best, and wool is naturally antimicrobial (meaning it naturally wicks moisture and keeps odor at bay!). My absolute faves are Smartwool, and even though they are slightly pricey, they last SO LONG. Seriously, I still have Smartwool socks that I purchased in high school. Smartwool sells a variety of socks for running, hiking, cycling, you name it, so check them out!

4. My Google Home Mini. This is one of the most important pieces of technology I’ve ever owned, and they’re only $29! I use my Home Mini for everything from ordering takeout, to listening to music, to playing white noise when I can’t get to sleep. One of me and my boyfriend’s favorite activites when we are super bored is to ask Google random questions and see if she can answer.
