WHY THIS SIZE INCLUSIVE RUNWAY SHOW WAS SUCH A BIG DEAL

NYFW 2019 F/W with 11 Honoré

COAT | DRESS | PURSE | EARRINGS

Sure, it was super cool to go to a runway show at New York Fashion Week. Sure, I felt honored that they even took the time to email me back. And, sure, I basically fell out of my chair when they told me they wanted me there. But this wasn’t JUST ANY runway show, and here’s why.

11 Honoré is one of the fashion industries newest e-commerce sites and they’re making BIG WAVES in the size-inclusive community. They’re not only covering plus, though, they start at size 10 for all of you in-betweeners! They go up to a size 24 currently!

From my point of view, as someone who has spent years pulling, styling, and shopping high end designers for other people… this is huge. HUGE. I have to be honest. This is something that I didn’t let myself dwell on much until I started this blog and really started diving in to my own insecurities. But I realized that I was shopping for these people, there was always something in my head telling me that something must be wrong with me because these designers don’t carry my size.

This wasn’t the first time that plus size models have been used on the runway, or that an exclusively plus size brand has walked the runway. But this was the first show that had plus size models who wore a variety of different HIGH END designer clothing made in their size.

And guess what? It wasn’t just specially made for these models, either. It’s from a website that you and I can easily shop, AND they have sales quite frequently.

So to all my ladies who have ever felt like they weren’t ENOUGH to wear high-end designer clothing… we’ve ALWAYS been enough. But now we are included. There’s a difference.

I was so honored to be invited to this show. I sat on the 3rd row with my fellow Atlanta babe Gess and we were in shock the entire time. I had never seen someone who looked like myself on the runway in this fashion. It was life changing, to say the least.

11 Honoré closed out the show with a game changing finale by Laverne Cox, a transgender model and actress (you may recognize her from the Netflix show Orange is the New Black).

I’m wearing a Mary Katrantzou faux fur coat (size 18) that I am obsessed with, and my dress is Badgley Mischka (size 20).

All over NYFW was the sign that read, “WE BELIEVE THE FUTURE IS YOURS. Fashion is Changing.”

I got chills.
