BEAUTY HACK // how microblading has changed my daily routine

Eyebrows… They can be one of the most important features on your face. If you don’t believe me, just google “celebrities with no eyebrows” and get back to me. ;) They also take up a lot of time, which as a mom you don’t always have a surplus of… Which leads me to today’s topic - Microblading! You’re going to think I’m being dramatic, but I haven’t touched my eyebrows once with makeup in the last two months. That isn’t always the result, and sometimes I probably should fill in a few bits here and there… but Microblading has seriously changed my life. I can now leave the house without doing one thing to my face and feel okay about it.

I considered doing microblading for a while before actually pulling the trigger. Fortunately my eyebrows, while not perfect, weren’t terribly thin or super lightly colored so most days I just applied makeup and went on my way. After much thought and consideration I decided to bite the bullet and partner with Brows by Milly to begin my microblading journey. Let’s just say, I am so happy I did! For those of you that may not know exactly what microblading is, keep reading!

Microblading

Step by Step

  • Consultation  •

When I went in for my appointment the technician, Niki, started by sketching the eyebrow outlines to determine if I liked the look of the brow or wanted any changes made. Typically your technician will use a formula to determine the right shape, size, arch, etc. for your face. This is the time to speak up if you aren’t comfortable with what you see, your technician wants you to be happy with the results, so speak now.

  • Numbing + Pigment Selection

Once I had approved the sketches Niki applied numbing cream to my brows in preparation for the procedure. At this point we discussed the color I’d like to achieve and selected an appropriate pigment. After about twenty minutes the numbing cream was removed and the microblading began.

  • Microblading

As stated above, microblading is accomplished by using a blade to make tiny incisions on my brows, they will then be filled with pigment, to give the appearance of individual eyebrows. The length of time that the process takes will be determined by the amount of existing eyebrows that you have and how heavily they will need to be filled in. After the strokes have been completed pigment is applied to the brows to make sure everything is covered.

  • After Care + Healing

After your appointment you will want to make sure your brows get enough moisture, your technician will go over a list of things you can and cannot use during this time. You will also want to avoid getting your eyebrows wet (including sweat) for at least ten days, so the pigment can be fully absorbed. You may notice after a few days that your skin is flaking and scabs have begun to form… This is a normal part of the process. Make sure not to scratch or pick at the area as much as possible, this is just part of your body’s natural recovery from the procedure.

  • FYI

The day of your microblading appointment your brows will be much darker than you probably want and even darker the next day. This will pass! The pigment will fade as your brows begin to heal and will settle into their final color about two weeks into the process. Make sure you check out Milly and Niki on Instagram where you can see all of their work!

  • Follow Up

About a month after your first appointment you will need to go in for a touch up. At this point your technician will assess your brows and fill in any places that were missed or have faded since the initial procedure. And voila, your brows are now amazing and ready for anything 24/7, no makeup required!

  • After Thoughts

Making the decision to microblade my brows has been a game changer. I made the jump just before NYFW in hopes that it would be one less thing to worry about while getting ready each day and I was not disappointed. It’s amazing how something so small can make such a huge difference in the way you feel each day and also the amount of time you save! Brows by Milly and Niki were amazing during this entire process and I highly recommend that you book your appointment with them! This can be a GREAT Christmas gift idea too! I’d love to hear about your experience, so please share!
