AN OPEN LETTER TO MY FIRST-BORN:
Thank you, Sesame Street Live, for sponsoring this blog post. Scroll down for an exciting giveaway at the bottom of this post!
Dear Emaline, E, Em, Emmie, etc…
You’re about to be a big sister and I am in complete denial. None of it feels real, and I honestly have no idea what to expect in the coming weeks.
I’m writing you this letter because maybe one day, you’ll read this and it will mean something.
I grew up dreaming of being a Mom, and you will forever be my first born who made my dreams come true by entering this world.
The first month of your life was traumatic, and full of uncertainty. We thought we were going to lose you. But deep down, I’d look in your eyes and I knew you were strong. I knew you were fighting. I knew there was no way you were going anywhere.
You have a spirit unlike anyone I’ve ever met. You are more than special. Your presence alone seems to touch people in the coolest way and my biggest prayer for you is that you use that “superpower” to change the world. I have no doubt in my mind that you will.
You are strong. You’ve got so much fight in you - every time I worry about you, I remind myself of this.
This also means you are especially strong-willed when it comes to getting what you want… ;) Girl, you will fight me to no end just to get the snack you think you need, one more sip of water, to read another book, to jump on the trampoline more, to NOT finish your meals, to eat candy for dinner, etc. While it’s exhausting, I try my best to think that MAYBE all this means you’ll be the President one day.
Right now, you’re snoring in my bed. The closer we get to your baby sister’s arrival, the more and more I find myself just wanting to snuggle up to you. These moments we have together, just me and you, they will forever be engrained in my soul. I almost didn’t get to have these moments with you - so while many (including myself) will say, “it’s not a good habit to let your kids sleep in the bed with you” —— I have a really hard time saying no.
I want you to know: I never take a moment with you for granted. You are forever my girl.
Lately, you’ve been snuggling up to me at random parts of the day and saying, “Mommy, I wuv you.”
Baby girl, I love you more.
xoxo, Mama
This month, I’ve made it even more of my mission to spend special time together before our world gets turned upside down (in the best way).
I’m SO excited to take Emaline to see Sesame Street Live in a few weeks - we went last year and she still remembers it!
