Creating a Lounge in our New Home with Walmart // phase one

We’ve been in our new house for a few months now, and although it’s been really hard to find time for all the projects and decorating --- we’ve made great progress!! So, when Walmart approached us about another design opportunity after having so much fun working on the porch, I JUMPED at the chance!
To be honest, Walmart.com has stepped up their game in a MAJOR way! The Walmart Home design collections they are currently offering are at an amazing price point and the quality is so good! If you haven’t checked out their Cottage Core Trend or the new Queer Eye Collection, you absolutely need to! And the “Beautiful by Drew” items are seriously STUNNING! With so many great choices and the ease of having everything delivered, Walmart is my new design best friend!
This time we decided to focus on the main floor living room: what I like to call… the lounge. Since the moment we went under contract with this house, we have envisioned this area (which was originally a traditional formal living room prior to renovations done in the past) as being a cozy spot for the grown-ups to hangout, ideally ;) while the kids play steps away in the den area.
However, in thinking about decorating this space, it would be ridiculous to assume that the kids will never be in it. Which means: I didn’t want to spend a ton of money on new items that could potentially get ruined (Emmie and Pearl, I’m lookin at youuu! ha!!).
This was another completely blank canvas, aside from a rug left here kindly by the previous owners and some mid century furniture pieces passed down to me from my Grandmother.
The room is more of an open space floor plan which can be tricky to decorate and keep a good flow. This room is in no way “done” yet -- but here is phase one! Keep your eyes peeled for phase two in a few weeks!
THE DESIGN PROCESS
Since we had one feature in the room as a starting point this time, the rug, we decided to play off of that and see what we could come up with. Our first find were these incredible pink chairs. These looked amazing online but I actually gasped out loud when they were delivered. The quality is insane, specifically for the price point, and when I tell you they are soft, you guys, THEY ARE SOFT. And also, extremely easy to put together. It took 20 minutes total to do two!!
As soon as we decided on these pink chairs my brain immediately said GREEN! So we chose some beautiful green accents and details that you’ll see in the pillows and decor. As I mentioned earlier, I did already have some mid century furniture pieces given to me from my Grandmother’s home. My dad had been holding on to these for me for several years and moving into this bigger house meant that I finally was able to get them and showcase them!
I browsed some more and found this pair of cute Pink Throws and this green chevron number that I knew would look great! Throws are always essential in a room where you want to invite relaxation and warmth. These dark pink pillows I picked because the thought they would go amazing with these green velvet with pink tassels - tbh, they sent me straight to heaven and we all know I love me a tropical print so these pillow covers were everything. 😝😝😝
When I searched for wall art I nearly lost it all over again (!!!) because Walmart has SO MANY good choices. I feel like this English Rose print found me and not the other way around. It was too good to be true. Then, as soon as I laid eyes on Under The Setting Sun there was no decision even needing to be made. The colors were perfect, the frame is this gorgeous antiqued brass that even ties in perfectly with the floor lamp! Hi, it’s me Ashley, the woman who loves a good tropical moment so, Bring. It. On.
With lighting I thought a floor lamp might be the way to go and I immediately hit on this antiqued brass arched floor lamp that was exactly what I wanted. Since we had already gone so bold with colors I thought the subtle rattan shade would be the perfect neutral touch.
Recap: for the second time since moving into our new house I found that Walmart can offer absolutely ANYTHING and EVERYTHING I could possibly need to fill a large open space. #MindBlown. I started with nothing except a few pieces of family heirlooms and a rug and now I have a beautiful, vibrant, eclectic and trendy little corner of my dream Adults Only lounge. Not only did I not have to leave my house when shopping but I also didn’t have to sacrifice my style or vision. In fact Walmart ENHANCED it and now we’ve got a space I couldn’t have dreamed up any better!
Phase Two is coming in the next few weeks -- stay tuned!!
