Do The Work

MOOD đź–¤

If you aren’t actively doing the work right now, you’re saying you’re okay with the way things are. “But I love everyone regardless” — no. No you don’t. Because if you did, if you truly held space in your heart and soul for others — then there is no way you could willfully ignore the injustices happening daily. If you are, then you’re saying you’re okay with it.

What “doing the work” can look like:
- signing up for workshops online to educate yourself on history, systemic racism, and things you may not have realized. @rachel.cargle @moemotivate both are great resources.
- say it out loud: Black lives matter. Does it make you uncomfortable? Yes? Okay let’s unpack that - start by researching redlining, white privilege, and systemic racism.. google baby google!
- take a look at the hard things you’ve had to work at within yourself, like body image for example, and start looking up how those issues might intersect with racism.
- Edit who you’re following. follow the people that serve you and lift you up. Follow the women who are sharing, not shaming.
- Do a personal ethics audit... do the brands you spend money with currently have a plan to aid in dismantling white supremacy/combat systemic racism within the workplace and from a corporate level?
- When you hear/read something that gut checks you, instead of swiping away in rage... pause and look it up. Defund the police, for example, is something I suggest reading about before dismissing it completely.
- read the stories of the lives lost, honor them, say their names, and look up ways to fight for justice.
- Research before you vote and vote. Research voter suppression.
- start reading books by Black authors. Buy books for your kids with Black main characters.
- listen to podcasts. Work this in to your daily life somehow... skip the morning dance party once in a while and instead listen to a podcast you can learn from.
- set up a monthly donation for causes that are committed to fighting this fight
- make an effort to shop from black owned businesses and restaurants ... ok, I know I missed things... feel free to add below 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼
