Did you know that Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is different than Halloween? Dia de los Muertos is a Mexican holiday that began over 3000 years ago, to celebrate the lives of loved ones who have been lost. Most families who practice this tradition decorate and treat the deceased ones as guests of honor. Celebrations occur from Oct. 31-Nov 2nd. Emmie and I have loved learning about this!! We love learning about other cultures and their traditions. This one is absolutely a favorite!

This year, Walmart has put together a collection on their website for Dia de Los Muertos with beautiful and affordable items! I absolutely love all of the home decor items we got and if this is a holiday you celebrate, I highly recommend everything in this blog post. My favorite items are the cupcake tin, goblets, and pot holders! #WalmartHome is one of my home decor go to’s lately.

Walmart makes prepping for this tradition easy with extra precautions in store, everyday low prices, and convenient delivery/pick up options.

Editors’ note: This is not a part of this advertisement but as the owner of House of Dorough, I feel it is important to let you know: Walmart has done some extensive work on their diversity & inclusion since 2018. I was so pleased with what I found, including a program designed to help employees and their families who are undocumented become citizens. They’ve raised minimum wage and from what I have seen they are holding a very high standard of how employees should be treated. In addition to that, they have several other programs ensuring Black people, BIPOC, LGBTQ+, Disabled, and other marginalized communities are put into leadership roles.

Emmie LOVES to bake and create! So we decided to bake these cupcakes and I let her decorate them! She had a blast. We used these incredible skull cake tins.

I bought these Pioneer Woman Goblets that will be a staple in my house for years to come. Check out the curated collection here, there are so many things you can use for this but also year round!

Below are all the items we used to decorate our home for the occasion.

Fiesta Multicolor Zig Zag Kitchen Towel

Sugar Skull Pattern Kitchen Towel

Caroline’s Treasures Day of the Dead Potholders

Nordic Ware Haunted Skull Cakelet Pan
