CURRENTLY WEARING: COMBAT BOOTS + BABIES

I often joke about being a wanting to be a cool mom, but part of that is because when you enter into motherhood you really do go through a major identity crisis. People told me that would happen and I never believed them. Honestly, though, for the first year of motherhood I feared I was losing myself.

I lost self confidence, the urge to try new things, and just overall felt like I was in a slump. I didn't fit in regular clothes. My maternity clothes were too big. Nothing felt right. I didn't feel pretty. Sound familiar?

So my whole "cool mom wannabe" schtick is really just a play off of me discovering my NEW best self after becoming a mama. I hear a lot of my other mom friends voice their fears of trying new things with their personal style because they "aren't cool enough." I will dive deeper into that subject at another time, but today I'm talking about taking risks in fashion.

Which brings me to this: I've always loved a good combat boot but I've noticed a lot of people too scared to try them. Doc Marten makes the best, I even rocked them throughout my pregnancy - so comfy! But lately there are some really cute, NOT Doc brand trendy ones out there. I recently snagged this pair on sale from DSW! These are kind of a hybrid of a motorcycle boot and a combat boot which I LOVE.

HOW TO ROCK A COMBAT BOOT

Pair them with leggings, tights and dresses, or in this case: skinny jeans. I like to offset the edgy with something softer... I chose this floral top and easy jacket from Old Navy. I feel like if you were to wear a leather jacket with these boots, unless it's your usual style, it would look like you're trying too hard. Don't do that. Mix it up; it's all about balance. If you're reading this, I urge to to TAKE A RISK on your personal style. That thing you've been eyeing, but you're not sure if you could pull it off... I bet you could. Go for it.
